Weatherman Shorts
Prime Gaming Forecast

Contributions: Creative Direction, Design, Production, Filming, Editing

The agency behind Prime Gaming’s Twitch live show came up with an idea that would put the rest of the studio space to good use, utilizing the green screen stage to create a Free Games With Prime update in the style of a weather forecast report. I could see the potential that this concept had, even if the pilot was a little rough around the edges.

I took on full creative control of the project; planning, directing and editing the reoccurring shorts that would function as an effective way to keep viewers informed about what’s available for Prime Members while giving them a laugh. These would grow into a segment that would be posted on all Prime Gaming social accounts, the YouTube page and be used as interstitials during live shows on both the Prime Gaming and Crown Twitch channels.

Original Short

Created as a proof of concept by the agency running our Twitch live show. The sound quality, green screen keying out and general design left something to be desired. Confident that I could do better, I took over the project moving forward, including on-set direction.

April Forecast

To elevate the look and feel of these shorts, I created a new animated background that implemented the Prime Gaming brand color palette, and a scrolling ticker along the bottom of the frame as a call-to-action for viewers. I also staggered the game reveals to appear when spoken.

May Forecast

Here we were beginning to experiment more with the visual effects that could be used to accentuate the host’s manic and playful energy. It was a lot of fun coming up with new ideas to try on set, and everyone on the crew was excited to see how the gags would come together.

August Forecast

We were hitting our stride and had the format figured out at this point. There happened to be a last minute change to the World of Warcraft drop after we had already recorded. Rather than scrapping the project, I took the opportunity to lean into the joke by using an overtly artificial voice to dub in the line.

September Forecast

I wanted to start making these a bit more informative, giving viewers an idea of what each title had to offer rather than simply listing them. The inclusion of gameplay went a long way to that end, but with such a tight runtime and not a lot of time to prep, we did what we could on the day.

October Forecast

We decided to go all-out for Halloween. My direction was to play this one like a spooky horror host, chewing up the scenery. From the animated background, visual effects, additional footage and music - this short required the heaviest amount of editing to bring together. This one will always be my favorite.
